Why "Primrose?"

Primroses (or “first roses” in Latin) are small pastel colored flowers. They were the sacred flower of Freya, who was the Norse goddess of love, and in the ancient Celtic world mothers placed primroses on their doorsteps to encourage fairies to bless their homes and families.

Throughout history primroses have been considered symbols of all of the following:

-Patience

-Kindness

-Tenderness

-Belonging and nurturing

-Eternal love and first love

-Safety and protection

-Womanhood

All of the words in this list encompass motherhood and I believe that the primrose is a perfect symbol of a mother’s eternal love for her child(ren).

I also recently found out that primrose oil used to be considered a cure for jaundice, which is one of the most common newborn conditions.
